IYENGAR® YOGA takes its name from the master B.K.S. IYENGAR®, a modern yogi who died a few years ago, and tried to promote yoga so that everyone could benefit from it. One of the principles discovered by B.K.S. IYENGAR® is that the positions, if maintained for a short time, can have a positive effect on the muscular and skeletal system. While, if kept for a longer time they get a physiological impact, and good results on the nervous system and mind can occur if kept even longer. The specific characteristic of the IYENGAR® style, compared to other hatha yoga styles, includes a clear demonstration of the positions (asanas) by the instructor, the great attention paid to the alignments of the limbs and the progressive refinement of each single position. This precision allows you to create space in closed and contracted areas, and it brings awareness to the whole body.
Another peculiarity of this style is the use of some tools (cushions, belts and benches) to be able to support the body, in order to maintain the posture for a longer time. This method brings deep benefits, helping people who are less flexible or with physical limitations to assume the positions to achieve the desired effects on the organs and nervous system.
IYENGAR® YOGA is for everyone, from absolute beginners to experienced students and it can be practiced at any age, regardless of their physical structure and fitness.
