Alta Badia owes its name to the Abbey/Badia, in Sonneburg in the Puster Valley. From St. Lorenzen in the Puster Valley one had direct access to the Abbey valley, that is to the communities of the Alta Badia region (La Val, Pedraces, la Villa, Corvara, Kolfuschg and St. Kassian).
Furthermore Alta Badia is connected with St. Vigil, with the Grödner Valley via the Grödner Pass, with Livinallongo via the Campolongo Pass and with Ampezzo via the Falzarego Pass. These valleys are all flooded with light and feature many meadows and dense forests that are dominated by the peaks of the Dolomites, among them also Marmolada Mountain.
