The Peace Tour
Subject of this tour is WW I, though the tour will still leave you with an optimistic outlook, because the grand nature of the Dolomite mountains makes you realise how precious peace is. This is where the Austrian Kaiserjäger (Emperor’s mountain infantry) and German Alpine Corps were locked in bitter battles with the Italian Alpini between May 1915 and November 1917.
The tour leads around the epicentre of the fighting, the Col di Lana, dominated by the sheer walls of famous peaks like Civetta, Monte Pelmo, Tofana, Lagazuoi, Conturines, Settsass, Sassongher, Sella and Marmolada. It is a day-tour on fantastic ski runs for the whole family. The runs from Lagazuoi to Armentarola and the longest run in the Dolomites, from Punta Rocca across Marmolada glacier to Malga Ciapela, are simply spectacular. The Civetta ski area is a popular starting point. One can also start the tour in S. Cassiano, Corvara, Arabba and Malga Ciapela.
